Cross Country places third at Valley Championships

Sophomore Kristin Wolkey led the Missouri State cross country team to a third-place finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. Wolkey, who ran a 5:49 mile pace, stopped the clock at 18:03.15 and landed a fifth-place finish in the 5K championship race.

Wichita State claimed the championship title with 38 points and four top 10 finishers. Southern Illinois finished second with 80 team points, followed by Missouri State (83), UNI (90), Indiana State (121), Bradley (156), Illinois State (160), Drake (187), Creighton (201) and Evansville (289).

Drake's Ashley Anklam was the individual Valley champion, finishing the race in 17:36.80. Wichita State's Chelsie Baldwin took home silver with a time of 17:40.30 and UNI's Traci Hawley rounded out the top three marking a time of 17:51.70.

Missouri State sophomore Jamie Vest was the Bears' second top finisher, earning 12th place in 18:25.10. Clarissa Codrington came in after Vest in the 20th spot with a time of 18:46.50. Carrie Vestal finished 22nd in 18:50.55 and Chloe Key was right behind, finishing 24th in 18:54.60.

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 11, as they travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship. The race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
