Bears dominate in 4-0 shutout over Tennessee-Martin

Sophomore Kate Blair claimed her second game-winning goal of the season, in the Missouri State women's soccer 4-0 shutout of the University of Tennessee-Martin, Sunday at Cooper Sports Complex. The Bears dominated on the offensive end, with three goals in the first 14 minutes of play.

Blair scored the Bears' first goal of the afternoon, and eventual game-winner, just over five minutes into the contest off an assist from Chelsea Anderson, to put Missouri State up 1-0 early.

The two combined for the Bears' following goal just four minutes later, as Blair sent the ball into the box to Anderson, who netted her first goal of the season.

Kate Hercules scored her first goal of the 2005 campaign at the 13:19 mark, when Jenna Dobkins poked the ball to Hercules, who scored among a sea of blue and white jerseys, to give Missouri State a 3-0 lead.

The Bears final goal of the first half and game, came on an own goal by the Tennessee-Martin squad, to put Missouri State up 4-0 going into intermission.

Neither team would find the net in the second half, as the Bears took the 4-0 shutout victory. Missouri State outshot the Skyhawks 10-3 in the first half, with Tennessee-Martin placing only one shot on goal, but UTM would take the advantage in the second half, with eight shots, to the Bears' four. The Bears outcornered the Skyhawks 9-0, including eight corner kicks in the first half for Missouri State.

Jackie Jasper (3-1) picked up the win and her second shutout of the season in goal for the Bears, and sophomore Elise Herndon also saw time in the net for Missouri State pulling in three saves in just over 27 minutes.

The Bears (3-1) travel to Denton, Texas, Friday to face the University of North Texas, with game time set for 7 p.m.
