2013-14: Completed her true freshman season as the MVC leader in 3-point accuracy, shooting 46.6 percent from beyond the arc (34-of-73) while playing in every MSU game and averaging 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds...Made at least one 3-pointer in 23 of the 28 games in which she had an attempt...Hit a trio of threes at Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 5) while posting 3-for-4 efforts from long range at Illinois State (Jan. 27) and against Southern Illinois (Feb. 2)...Scored a season-high 11 points against SIU that game, adding four rebounds and three steals...Made at least half of her 3-point attempts in 17 games...Dished out 43 assists and swiped 23 steals on the season...Bumped her scoring average to 4.9 points in MVC games while playing more than 20 minutes per game in league contests.
Background: Hughes was a four-time all-conference selection at Bishop Miege High outside Kansas City...As a senior, Hughes earned first-team all-Eastern Kansas League laurels, leading the Stags to a 17-6 record and state tournament appearance...Hughes averaged 12 points, 1.5 rebounds, two assists and one steal while shooting 48 percent overall and 43 percent from beyond the arc that season as a McDonald’s All-America nominee...As a junior, Hughes was an honorable mention all-state pick according to the Wichita Eagle and the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association after averaging 13.3 points per game with season totals of 71 assists and 48 made 3-pointers...She was a first-team all-conference pick that year and a second-team choice following a sophomore campaign in which she scored 10.8 points per contest and made 41 treys...Hughes averaged 6.9 points as a freshman, helping Bishop Miege to an 18-6 record and fourth-place state finish on the way to honorable mention all-conference accolades.
