Missouri State returns to action Friday at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., for its first road competition of the 2026 season.
The Bears will compete in their first 6K of the season after opening the year with a victory at the 5K at Queen City After Dark.
Missouri State captured the Queen City After Dark team title with 28 points, finishing 44 points ahead of runner-up Rockhurst.
The Bears placed all five scoring runners inside the top eight and all 12 competitors inside the top 24 in their season opener.
Senior Ella Cronhardt led Missouri State with a third-place finish in 17:38, followed by junior Riley Bryan in fourth at 17:39.
Senior Tabitha Fox finished sixth in 17:51, sophomore Elsa Henry placed seventh in 18:00 and freshman Makenna Madetzke crossed eighth in 18:05 to round out the Bears' scoring five. Madetzke's performance came in her collegiate cross country debut.
Missouri State entered the season tied for second in the Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing third at the 2025 CUSA Championship, its best conference finish since 2010.
Gans Creek Cross Country Course has hosted the 2021 SEC Championships, 2022 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships and 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The 6K course consists of two 3k loops.
