Bears Sweep Kansas City for Seventh Straight Win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Hannah Gardner collected her second consecutive triple-double, Brooke Eslinger surpassed 1,000 career digs, and Missouri State swept Kansas City by set scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 to extend its win streak to seven matches on Thursday evening at the Swinney Center.
Mo State's (8-2) longest win streak since 2017 was powered by another historic performance by Gardner, whose consecutive triple-doubles, and achieving the second in a three-set match, are both firsts for a Bear since 1989, while her fifth career triple-double ties for the most at MSU since the advent of rally scoring in 2001. The sophomore finished with 15 kills on .500 hitting, 13 assists and 15 digs.
Eslinger became the 29th player in program history with 1,000 career digs early in the third set, freshman Halle Rillie tallied a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs, while Lexi Weinberg and Rilynn Finley added 11 kills apiece.
The Bears overcame a 10-3 deficit to win the opening set, taking their first lead at 19-18 on a Hannah Redrow kill and closing on a 5-0 run to end with 18 kills on .356 hitting.
Mo State held the Roos (5-5) to .122 hitting in the second set and broke it open with a 5-0 run to lead 17-11, and Gardner then took over in the third.
Gardner reached the triple-double with a kill for a 9-8 lead in the final set, then had five kills to pull away from a 17-17 tie, ending the period 7-for-8 on the attack.
Missouri State held leads of 51-36 in kills, .265-172 in hitting percentage and 66-55 in digs.
The Bears continue tournament play against Southeast Missouri State at 4 p.m. Friday.
