Volleyball Bears Take Down SEMO in Four Sets

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Five Bears tallied at least eight kills, including a combined 18 without an error out of the middle from Hannah Redrow and Chloe Judd, and Missouri State captured its eighth consecutive victory Friday with a 3-1 win against Southeast Missouri State.
The Bears (9-2) won by set scores of 19-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20, with the balanced offensive attack hitting at a .292 clip to complement strong closing runs in the final two sets.
Mo State's nine wins prior to conference play equal the 2021, 2016, 2015 and 2007 squads for the most at this point in the season since the 1990 team entered league play with 10 victories under its belt. The Bears take on Saint Louis on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Kansas City before hosting FIU on Sept. 25 at Hammons Student Center to begin Conference USA play.
After splitting the first two periods, the Redhawks (6-6) opened a 16-9 lead in the third and kept the margin at 23-20 before the Bears charged back with a 5-0 closing run. Kills by Redrow and Judd on either side of a SEMO error made it 23-23, and Lexi Weinberg finished it with a pair of blocks to help the Bears match a season high with 11 stuffs.
In the fourth set, Mo State closed on a 6-0 run after trailing 20-19, with a pair of Rilynn Finley kills mixed in before Riley Ourth's ace secured the winning point.
Redrow hit .588 with a season-high 10 kills, sharing team-high honors with Finley and Weinberg. Judd totaled eight kills and seven blocks, while Hannah Gardner threatened another triple-double with eight kills, 24 assists and 11 digs. Ourth also had 11 digs.
Missouri State overcame statistical deficits in several categories by committing just 12 attack errors compared to 28 for the Redhawks, leading to a .292-.194 efficiency advantage.
