No. 12 Men’s Soccer Ties With No. 16 Kansas City

SPRINGFIELD - No. 12 Missouri State men's soccer (5-0-1, 1-0-0) tied with No. 16 Kansas City (4-1-2), in a tightly contested 3-3 scoreline at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Bears extend their undefeated run to six games, their longest since 2024 when they went on a 13-match streak from 9/6/24 until 11/6/26.
"There are definitely a lot of positive takeaways from tonight. We once again showed up on the score sheet, and now we have gotten a goal to score in every game this season and scored three tonight from three different goal scorers," stated head coach Michael Seabolt after the tie.
It was the Bears that made the first impression on the scoreboard tonight, when in just the ninth minute freshman Ben Furlong capitalized off an error by the Roo's defense to find the back of the net.
However, the aggressive play by Kansas City was rewarded in the final minute of the first half, when Elouan Labadie-Vincent found the top left of the goal to equalize.
The Roos continued with the fiery momentum in the start of the second half, with Labadie-Vincent once again scoring for Kansas City to take the lead.
But Mo State showed grit and kept creating opportunities offensively. Junior João Boavida showed up when it counted and in the 67th minute found the back right of the net off an assist by 5th year Adrián Esteban to put the Bears back in the match.
The Bears fed off the momentum of that pivotal second goal, and once again put themselves in a place to score in the 79th minute. 5th year Diego Real added a fourth goal to his season tally, and it was Boavida and senior Alex Rodriguez that provided the necessary assist to help the Bears get ahead on the scoreboard, 3-2.
Yet, the Roos persevered and once again found a way to equalize with Mariano Beunza scoring the final equalizing goal in the 88th minute.
"Obviously, I'm a bit disappointed that we couldn't get the win because we come into every game to win it, but we also respect them [Kansas City] as a good team. We went down on the scoreboard in the second half so we're glad that we could show grit to come back in the game and ultimately, it's a shame that they tied, but we take the point we move forward, and we prepare for the next game," stated Real post-match.
Missouri State ended the night with 10 shots with four on goal, while the Roos shot eight shots, of which four were on goal. The Bears tallied three corner kicks, to the Roos eight. Both Mo State and Kansas City made one save each in the first half.
"For the next game we just have to rest up and recover, keep getting close as a team, and keep being invested in being Bears. We have an off day tomorrow and then get ready to fly to Temple this weekend which is a great conference match-up on the road, and we just look to get 3 points to go 2-0 in this league [American]," explained Seabolt ahead of the Bears next match.
The Bears are back on the road for their next American conference match-up on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:00 p.m. to compete against Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa.
