Lewis Tallies 10 Saves in Loss at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Missouri State goalkeeper Kate Lewis recorded 10 saves Thursday evening, but Kansas State used sustained offensive pressure to hand the Bears a 3-0 setback at Buser Family Park.
The loss marked Missouri State's first against K-State in three all-time meetings.
Lewis was tested early and responded, denying Rilyn Rintoul on a shot toward the bottom-left corner in the fifth minute. K-State broke through shortly after when McKinnan Braswell finished from the center of the box off an assist from Rintoul at the 5:34 mark.
The Wildcats continued to pressure the Missouri State defense throughout the opening half, but Lewis kept the Bears within striking distance. She turned away another attempt headed toward the top-right corner in the 11th minute and finished the first half with seven saves.
Despite K-State generating 20 shots and 10 corner kicks over the opening 45 minutes, Missouri State entered halftime trailing just 1-0.
The Wildcats extended their advantage in the 58th minute when Rintoul found the back of the net off an assist from Gabby DeMers.
Lewis continued to make stops in the second half before K-State added its final goal at the 75:23 mark on a strike from Kennedy Miller.
Missouri State produced its best attacking stretch late in the match. Kyra Berman registered the Bears' first shot in the 81st minute before Ariya Barton followed seconds later with an attempt on frame that forced a save from K-State goalkeeper Maddie Sibbing.
Lewis made her 10th and final save in the closing minute to cap a 90-minute performance in goal.
K-State finished with a 32-2 advantage in shots, including a 13-1 edge in shots on goal. The Wildcats also held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Missouri State returns home Sunday, Aug. 23, to host Missouri at 3 p.m. at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. The match will serve as the Bears' White Out Game and International Programs Night. Admission is free for all home games during the season.
