
Softball Places Five on CSC Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Missouri State softball placed five student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced today.

Makenzi Swick earns CSC Academic All-District honors for the second time in her career, while Riley Baber, Paityn Engemann, Brynn Romine and Halle Studer all earn the recognition for the first time.

Swick is a four-time NFCA scholar-athlete, a two-time CSC Academic All-District Team member and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference scholar-athlete first team in 2025. The right-handed pitcher was also a Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and earned a spot on the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2025-26. Swick recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biology.

The Stillwater, Okla., native made 22 appearances in the circle for the Bears in 2026. She owned a 4-5 record with a 6.14 ERA in 57.0 innings of work. She tossed two complete games, earned one save and struck out 24 batters on the year.

Baber earns the first CSC nod of her career as a sophomore. The first baseman was named to the Conference USA Softball All-Academic Team, the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal this season. Baber is also a two-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete. She owns a 3.98 GPA as she pursues a degree in Biomedical Sciences.

The Overland Park, Kan., native started all but one game on the season and led the Bears with a .348 batting average and 47 hits. Her 16 doubles on the year ranked second in Mo State single-season history. Baber also helped anchor a Mo State defense that turned 23 double plays.

Engemann collects the first CSC honor of her career following her first season at Missouri State. The junior transfer was named to the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal this season. She also appeared on the MSU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both semesters for the 2025-26 academic year and is a 2026 NFCA Scholar-Athlete. Engemann owns a 3.90 GPA as she pursues a degree in Biology.

The Troy, Kan., native made 29 appearances in the circle for the Bears in 2026, second-most on the staff. Engemann earned three saves on the year and struck out 28 batters in 44.1 innings of work.

Romine garners the first CSC award of her career following her sophomore campaign. The center fielder is also a two-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete, and earned the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal and a spot on the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll this season. She has appeared on the MSU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all four semesters of her career. Romine owns a 3.96 GPA as she pursues a degree in Chemistry.

The Gravette, Ark., native started 47 games for the Bears in 2026 and led Mo State with 28 runs scored. She batted .278 on the year with 37 hits, 15 walks and nine RBI. Romine committed just one error in the outfield for a .983 fielding percentage.

Rounding out the group is Studer, who earns her first CSC nod as a sophomore. The versatile infielder also received the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal and earned a spot on the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll this season. She is a two-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete and has been a member of the MSU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in all four semesters of her career. Studer owns a 3.84 GPA as she pursues a degree in Biomedical Sciences.

Nominees must have competed in 90 percent or started in at least 66 percent of the institution's contests, or - for pitchers - pitched at least 35 innings or made 17 appearances, must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and must carry at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
