Baseball Bears Rout Cowboys, Stay Unbeaten at Home

SPRINGFIELD – Carter Bergman hit a grand slam in the first inning and Logan Fyffe added another in the second to set the tone for a 16-2 Missouri State victory over Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon at Hammons Field.

Bergman added a solo homer in the fourth, his 10th of the season and third career multi-home run game, and drove in a career-high six runs, while Fyffe equaled his career high of five RBIs in a 3-for-5 day at the plate.

The Bears (16-7) opened a six-run fifth inning with a Gabe Roessler triple and Jackson Beaman double, adding runs on two errors, a wild pitch, Fyffe RBI single and Roessler bases-loaded walk.

Taeg Gollert capped it with a solo homer in the sixth, tying Brayden Drake for fifth in Mo State history with his 101st career extra-base hit and the team's 50th long ball of the year, helping the Bears improve to 11-0 at home.

Max Knight (3-0) got the start and tossed a career-high 4.1 seven innings with seven strikeouts, allowing just a two-run double to the Cowboys (16-9). Jason Schaaf pitched the final 2.2 frames and matched a career high with eight strikeouts.

Mo State slugged eight total extra-base hits and hit two grand slams in a game for the first time since April 2023.

The Bears return to Conference USA this weekend with a three-game series at Dallas Baptist (14-10, 4-2). Game one on Friday, March 27 is set for 6:30 p.m., followed by 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
