MARTIN, Tenn.- Missouri State STUNT (10-8) beat Northern Kentucky twice and lost to UT Martin and Maryville this weekend at a four-game event hosted by UT Martin.
"We are proud of the team for competing pyramid six on the floor for the first time and earning the point. A lot of our levels looked better; however, we are disappointed in the execution of some of our skills that cost us two of our games. We are looking for a better outcome next weekend," stated head coach Kennedy Wingbermuehle.
Missouri State STUNT is back on the mat on Friday, March. 20 for four games over two days in Nashville, Tenn., to face Mercyhurt, Hope International, California Baptist, and McNeese State.
Game One
Missouri State 30, Northern Kentucky 14
The Bears raced out of the blocks in the first quarter of partner stunts earning five points to one for the Norse. The pyramids and tosses were closely contended with the Bears winning four points to three for the Norse making the game competitive. But the Bears entered the second half of the jumps and tumbling on fire, repeating the first quarter's results on the scoreboard. MoState then finished the meet off with 16 points earned in the team routines, to the nine earned by the Norse.
Game Two
UT Martin 30, Missouri State 28
The Bears and the Skyhawks put on a show from the very first quarter. The Seahawks were awarded four points to the Bears' three. UT Martin kept their noses in front in the pyramids and tosses, winning five points to the Bears' three. In the third quarter of jumps and tumbling, the Seahawks kept the lead, securing six points to Missouri State's five. But the Bears fought hard to close the gap in the fourth quarter in the team routines with 17 points earned to the Seahawks 15.
Game Three
Maryville 23, Missouri State 22
Missouri State lost by a hair in another heartbreaker by just one point to the Saints. The Saints kept in steady control of the first half, opening up the partner stunts earning three points to the Bears' two. In the pyramids and tosses, they were awarded four points to the Bears' three. But the Bears took back control in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling with six points earned to the Saints three. But it wasn't enough, as Maryville closed out the game with 13 points earned to the Bears' 11 in the team routines.
Game Four
Missouri State 27, Northern Kentucky 4
Missouri State earned another victory over the Norse in confident fashion. Bears opened the first quarter of partner stunts earning five points earned and only conceding one to the Norse. In the pyramids and tosses, the Bears held onto the lead, taking six points to Northern Kentuckys' two. The Bears dominated in the third quarter winning four points in the jumps and tumbling, and conceding none. Missouri State then finished the game and the weekend with a brilliant showing in the team routines earning them 12 points to one for the Norse.
