SPRINGFIELD - Freshman Kiefer Roemer has officially been announced as a 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships qualifier in the 100-yard breaststroke. He also received the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Freshman of the Year award after the Missouri State men's swimming and diving team earned the 2026 MVC title – its 22nd total conference championship.
"We are very excited for Kiefer and our program to be represented at the NCAA championships. He has been very consistent and locked in from day one so to see him get this opportunity is a great way to wrap up the season," stated head coach Dave Collins.
Roemer won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke during the Missouri Valley Conference Championship with a time of 52.56 that set an MVC record and earned him the NCAA ticket. The time is also the second fastest in school history.
Roemer is looking forward to the opportunity, "It's really exciting to qualify for the NCAA Championships in my first season as a Bear. I'm thankful for the opportunity, and I know it's not just about me, it's a credit to the team, the coaches, and the program that helped put me in that position. I'm excited to compete and perform to the best of my ability."
Roemer will race on day two of the championships on Thursday, March 26 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
