Bears Score 12 in Second Inning, Run-Rule ORU

SPRINGFIELD – Logan Fyffe drove in five runs during Missouri State's 12-run second inning Tuesday afternoon at Hammons Field to lead the Bears to a 13-1 victory in seven innings over Oral Roberts in the 2026 home opener.

Fyffe became the 10th Bear this season with a home run thanks to a three-run shot in his first at bat of the frame, then added a two-run double to cap the scoring in the sixth-highest scoring inning in program history and biggest since 1999.

Max Knight and Curry Sutherland opened the second inning with back-to-back home runs that both exceeded 400 feet to give Missouri State (4-4) the lead after ORU (3-5) tallied a run in the top half.

Fyffe's first career homer came three batters later, Taeg Gollert hit an RBI single, Sutherland walked with the bases loaded, Bobby Atkinson hit a two-run single, Bryce Cermenelli slugged an RBI double and Fyffe finished it with his double to become the first Bear since 2023 with two extra-base hits in an inning.

Five Missouri State pitchers combined to allow a run on four hits, with Trent Ash tossing two innings in the start before Tommy Kramkowski, Brody McNiel, Lance Wade and Sam Maclaughlin combined for five shutout innings out of the bullpen.

McNiel (1-0) got the winning decision, his first as a Bear, by retiring all four batters he faced with three strikeouts, and Maclaughlin closed it out with 1.2 hitless frames.

Knight added an RBI ground out in the fifth for the final run.

Atkinson and Fyffe had three hits apiece, and Missouri State improved to 48-15 all-time in home openers with a 16-7 mark in such games at Hammons Field.

The Bears host Little Rock in a three-game weekend series beginning Feb. 27. First pitch for Friday's opener is 3 p.m., followed by 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets to all home games are available here.
