October 07, 2026 | Men's Soccer
SPRINGFIELD - No. 8 Missouri State men's soccer (9-0-2, 3-0-1) beat Oral Roberts (2-5-4, 0-1-1), with a penalty goal by fifth-year Diego Real sealing a 1-0 victory for the Bears on Wednesday night at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
The Bears extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games, their longest since a 13-match run in 2024.
Mo State also adds its fourth clean sheet of the season with the victory.
"We created a ton of chances; the guys played hard and well, and it was great to get a clean sheet," said head coach Michael Seabolt.
The Bears stayed aggressive throughout the match, creating substantial chances and minimizing the opportunities presented to Oral Roberts.
In just the third minute, Real fired the first shot on goal of the match, which was saved by Golden Eagles' goalkeeper Cameron Parma, setting the precedent for the rest of the match.
But once again, Real executed when it mattered most. In the 27th minute, he placed the penalty kick strategically into the bottom right of the goal to secure victory for the Bears.
When asked how he keeps his composure in such high-pressure moments, Real responded, "My teammates trust me to take them [penalties], and I work on them so when these moments come in the game, I feel confident."
This is Real's ninth goal of the season, and along with his four assists he has earned 22 points for Mo State over the course of the fall so far.
The second half picked up where the first left off, with the Bears pressuring offensively and tallying two more shots by the 53rd minute.
However, the Golden Eagles fought to get a shot on goal first in the second half by Cristopher Gonzalez. But it was no match for junior Bear Fernando Alves Schmelz, who had a great night in goal, keeping a clean sheet for 90 minutes for the fourth time this season.
In the 59th minute, Real fought to double the lead with a shot on goal, only to have it saved by Parma.
From the 71st to the 75th minute, the Bears tallied four more shots on goal, applying sustained pressure offensively.
Ultimately, the penalty by Real secured the ninth victory of the season for the Bears.
Missouri State ended the night with 23 shots, with 14 on goal, while Oral Roberts ended with nine shots, of which three were on goal. The Bears tallied three corner kicks, to Oral Roberts' one. Mo State made three saves while Oral Roberts made 13.
"We're excited for Sunday, it's going be an unbelievable night to support this top team and it will be a great American Conference matchup with Tulsa, as they're a perennial power in this league and we need to be ready for it," expressed Seabolt heading into the Bears' next game.
