SPRINGFIELD - Ellie Neath scored twice in the first half, including the eventual game-winner in the 35th minute, as Missouri State women's soccer earned its first Conference USA victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Kennesaw State Thursday afternoon at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
Missouri State (4-7-4, 1-2-3 CUSA) finished with an 11-8 advantage in shots and put four shots on goal while limiting Kennesaw State (5-8-3, 2-4 CUSA) to just one shot on frame. The Bears also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
Neath led the Bears with five shots, including three on goal, while Marleigh Allen, Lillie Rasmussen and Logan Morrow each recorded an assist.
Missouri State wasted little time getting on the board as Neath struck just 3:49 into the match. Allen and Rasmussen combined to set up Neath for her third goal of the season and an early 1-0 advantage.
Kennesaw State responded in the 14th minute when Ava Bradford scored unassisted to level the match, 1-1.
Missouri State continued to apply pressure following the equalizer, with Kennesaw State goalkeeper Charlee Bernal turning away attempts from Allen and Neath over the next five minutes.
The Bears broke through again at the 34:52 mark when Morrow set up Neath for her second goal of the afternoon and fourth of the season, giving Missouri State a 2-1 lead it would not relinquish.
Kennesaw State pushed for the equalizer after halftime, but the Bears' back line kept the Owls from putting another shot on frame. KSU managed four second-half attempts, but goalkeeper Kate Lewis was not forced into a save.
The victory moved Missouri State up to sixth in the CUSA standings and inside the top eight with two conference matches remaining.
Missouri State returns to action Sunday when it hosts FIU at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium. The match will air on ESPN+ and admission will be free for all fans.
