SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State men's soccer (10-1-3, 3-1-2) beat Bradley (2-5-6, 0-3-0), with a 2-0 scoreline, celebrating the Mo State senior class and concluding the Bears' non-conference regular season schedule on Thursday night at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
"We love those guys, and we are just so proud of what they have done at Missouri State," said head coach Michael Seabolt about his graduating seniors.
It marks the Bears 10th win of the season, keeping them in the top 10 in the nation in winning percentage.
Junior Fernando Alves Schmelz earned his sixth clean sheet of the season with his stunning performance in goal, saving three Bradley shots on goal. This places him first in the nation and American Conference in goals against average (.308) and seventh in the nation and first in the American in save pct. (.846).
In the first half 5th year Hugo Jinkinson set off the fiery momentum of the Bears with a stellar header to the top left of goal in the 13th minute, assisted by senior Daniel Souza and fifth year Adrián Esteban.
The Bears then pressed hard in the second half, adding three shots, two of those being on goal, while steadily waiting in control for another scoring opportunity.
That opportunity came in the 72nd minute. Senior Joey Dawson tallied his first goal as Bear, finding himself exactly where he needed to be after a cross by junior Marco Rosati, executing beautifully to secure victory for the Bears.
"We have had a couple of clean sheets in a row which is cool, [we want to] continue to score goals, and be a team. It's all about investing in this team, investing in this university, and in this community. It's a team effort; we are going to keep doing that and rest up for next Wednesday," said Seabolt.
Missouri State ended the night with nine shots, of which four were on goal, while Bradley ended with eight shots, of which three were on goal. The Bears tallied three corner kicks, to the Braves' five. Mo State made three saves to the Braves' two.
The Bears are home again for an American Conference matchup against UAB on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
With two regular-season matches remaining, the Bears are locked into a three-way tie for first place with Charlotte and Tulsa.
