Matthews Earns Preseason All-Conference Honors

IRVING, Texas – Missouri State junior Alex Matthews was named to the 2025 American Preseason All-Conference Team on Monday, while the Bears are tabbed fifth with a first-place vote in a tightly-contested American Conference preseason poll entering their first season as an affiliate member of the league.
The Bears are ranked 24th in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll and are one of five teams to receive a first-place vote in the American poll. Charlotte was picked to repeat as champion with 58 total points, followed by FIU (47), Memphis (46), South Florida (46) and the Bears (45), just two points out of second place.
Matthews led the Bears in minutes played last season as a United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team member and was named a Defender to Watch in 2025 by the organization earlier this month. The junior from Derbyshire, England, is a team captain for MoState this season and earned first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference honors a season ago.
Missouri State begins the 2025 season Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Seattle at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on the MSU campus. Seattle sits just outside the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.
