SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State tennis wrapped up its home schedule with a 5-2 loss to Missouri Valley Conference leader Murray State on Sunday.
 
Junior Billur Gonlusen ended the last weekend of home play with a perfect record. She was undefeated in Saturday's match against Belmont with a doubles and singles win, then Gonlusen repeated the feat against the Racers. She and Tuana Gunal won their doubles match 7-5 against Murray State's Bruna Melato and Valeria Chaikovskaia. The Turkish duo have won four straight doubles matches in the No. 1 spot.
 
The real battle for Gonlusen came in the singles match. In both sets of the No. 2 match, Gonlusen and Murray State's Verya Alexeyeva went to a tiebreaker. In the first tie breaker, neither player was able to eastablish a solid lead. Eventually, Gonlusen was able to put two points together to win 12-10. The second tiebreaker was a different story. The junior ran away with the lead to win 7-1 to close out the match and the weekend.
 
Gunal also played a hard-fought match. The sophomore won the first set 6-4 but dropped the second set by the same margin against Chaikovkaia. Gunal won the third set 6-3 to earn her second straight win in a match that goes to three sets.
 
The Bears stay alive in the MVC standings and are tied with Bradley for the final spot in the postseason tournament. MoState will close out the regular season on the road at Drake on Friday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m. and Northern Iowa on Saturday, April 19 at 10:00 a.m.
