SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State women's tennis dropped a battle against Oral Roberts, 7-0, at home on Tuesday.
 
The Bears (1-13) fought for the doubles point early in the match. Tuana Gunal and Sandra Lukacova took home a win in the No. 2 flight with a 6-3 win over ORU's Ava Goodell and Arina Sorokina. It was the first doubles match the two have ever played together.
 
Billur Gonlusen and Lucy Latham fought through a tiebreaker at No. 1 before dropping 7-6 (7-4). The duo are one of two doubles teams to have faced a tie breaker this spring.
 
In singles, Latham took ORU's Chara Grammatikaki to the ropes at No. 2. The freshman out of Tulsa, Okla. won the first set 6-4 then lost the second by the same margin. Latham and Grammatikaki played a 10-point tie breaker to decide the match. Oral Roberts prevailed 10-8 in Latham's first match in over a month.
 
Romy Pols pushed the No. 5 match to the limit with a 7-5, 7-5 loss to Cassie Cervantes from Oral Roberts. It is the smallest margin of loss for Pols since moving into the No. 5 spot.
 
MoState will begin its final run around the Missouri Valley Conference on March 22 at Valparaiso and March 23 at UIC.
