Missouri State

McKenzie Vaughan vs. Wisconsin

Softball Drops Two on Day 2 at the Paradise Classic

February 08, 2025

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOCA RATON, Fla.

Game 1 - Wisconsin 3, Missouri State 1
Missouri State and Wisconsin were locked in a pitcher's duel early in the Bears' first of two games on Saturday afternoon.

MoState had an early opportunity against the Badgers, loading the bases courtesy of Kayla Ulrich and Brynn Romine singles and a two-out Wisconsin error. Unfortunately, the Bears were unable to push a run across in the opening frame after a pop up ended the inning.

Wisconsin eventually broke through in the top of the third inning, scoring the game's first run with a solo homer to left field. Missouri State allowed just one Badger baserunner across the fourth and fifth innings to hold Wisconsin at bay before striking back in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Ulrich once again got things going with a single, this time to left field, before she was eventually lifted for pinch runner Sofia King. After a fly out, McKenzie Vaughan tied things up at 1-1 when she smoked the ball off the fence in center field, scoring King from first base.

Just as Missouri State seemed to grab some momentum, Wisconsin answered right back in the sixth inning. The Badgers popped up to start the inning, but then a single and a walk set the stage for a Brooke Kuffel two-RBI single to put Wisconsin back in front, 3-1. From there, MoState would go down in order in each of the last two innings and fall to 0-3 to start the season.

Ulrich once again led the way with a two-hit performance, while Vaughan collected the lone RBI for the Bears. Missouri State stranded eight runners in the game.

Game 2 – Florida Atlantic 11, Missouri State 0 (5 Innings)
The nightcap didn't go in favor of Missouri State as the host Florida Atlantic held the Bears to zero hits, while posting multiple runs in three of its four offensive innings

FAU jumped out in front early with a three-run first inning with three hits, a walk and an error. Missouri State held the Owls off the scoreboard in the second inning, but then a five-run third inning for FAU put the Bears behind by eight runs.

The Bears got a baserunner on to lead off the top of the fourth as Romine reached via an error, before stealing second base to get into scoring position. Unfortunately, the Bears couldn't rally as three straight batters were retired to end the inning.

The Owls added three more insurance runs in the fourth on four hits and an error as Missouri State would go on to suffer an 11-0 run-rule loss in five innings.
