SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State men's soccer has hired Micah Adkins-Estes as an assistant coach, Missouri State head coach
Michael Seabolt announced Thursday afternoon.
"I am thrilled to welcome Micah to the staff," Seabolt said. "He impressed throughout the interview process and his references spoke very highly of him. Danny Frid and
Kian Yari are doing a great job and I have no doubt Micah will settle in quickly with our staff. Micah is a hard worker, a high character person and passionate to grow as a coach. We have a top group of goalies for Micah to work with and I know Micah will fulfill a ton of other roles with the student-athletes and the program."
Adkins-Estes makes his way to Springfield from Louisville where he spent the 2024 season as an assistant men's soccer coach at Division III Spalding University. The Golden Eagles won their first-ever St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament last season and advanced to the DIII NCAA Tournament.
Before his successful season at Spalding, Adkins-Estes was the goalkeeper coach at DIII Wheaton College in Illinois. In 2023, he helped lead the program to an 11-5-2 record and a second-place finish in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). He oversaw a goalkeeper room that saw junior Mason Escalante be named the CCIW Goalkeeper of the Year. While at Wheaton, Adkins-Estes was also the assistant technical director of Kickers Soccer Club in Aurora, Illinois.
Adkins-Estes got his coaching career started with the Morehead State women's soccer team and at his alma mater, Kentucky Christian University, as the goalkeeper coach for the men's and women's programs.
Adkins-Estes played collegiate soccer for Kentucky Christian in the city of Grayson, which competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association. He was named an NCCAA Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, an NCCAA National Defender of the Week as well as an NCCAA All-Tournament first-team player for the two-time NCCAA National Runner-Up Knights. He was an NCCAA All-American Honorable Mention in 2018 with nine clean sheets while averaging 5.3 saves per game. He had an NCCAA-high 15 saves against the University of Cincinnati - Clermont.
He earned his degree from KCU in Biblical Studies with an emphasis in sports ministry and a minor in counseling in May 2020.
Adkins-Estes was also the head coach at Greenwood Christian Academy in Indianapolis, where he was the youngest coach in Indiana state history to lead the boy's team to the state championship in just his second season.
A native of Science Hill, Kentucky, Adkins-Estes graduated from Pulaski County High School in Somerset, where he was an All-District and All-Region honoree as a senior. He was the captain of the team and led it to the regional semifinals.
Adkins-Estes will oversee the goalkeeper room that was led by Dominic Gillespie for the last two seasons. The Bears were eighth in DI in team goals against average in 2023 (.737) led by
Harry Townsend, who had nine shutouts and a .706 goals against average that year that was tenth in the nation. Last season, Missouri State's .833 goals against average was tied for 14th in the country.
Will Lowry's .674 goals against average was fifth in DI.
"A big thank you to Dominic Gillespie for his two years with us," Seabolt said. "Dom was tireless to do everything it takes on and off the field and we respect and appreciate him for that. We wish him and his family well. Dom will always be a Bear!"
Missouri State men's soccer will join the American Athletic Conference in 2025 after 34 seasons in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears won a league-tying 12th regular season conference championship in 2024 and hold the best overall DI record since 2019 (83-15-10, .815). MoState is one of seven teams to make the DI NCAA Tournament each of the last six seasons.
All hires are contingent upon final approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors at its next scheduled meeting.
