The Lady Bear NecessitiesÂ
- Missouri State women's basketball sets out on a four-game road swing that begins at Northern Iowa on Thursday night (6:00 p.m.). MoState leads the all-time series against UNI, 62-31, which includes a 23-20 record on the road in Cedar Falls.Â
- In 10 true road games this season, Kyrah Daniels (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) leads the way for Missouri State with 16.8 points per game. On the road, Daniels is shooting 43% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc. Â
- Lainie Douglas (Fr., Overland Park, Kan.) has come on strong in the post. The freshman has scored in double figures in four straight games and seven of the last eight outings. Douglas leads the team with a .572 field goal percentage and 21 blocks, and in MVC games her FG% is .607 (54-89). She has earned MVC Freshman of the Week three times this season.
- The duo of Sarah Linthacum (Sr., Jefferson City, Mo.) and Douglas in the post is shooting a combined .549 (200-364) from the field this season. Linthacum's .535 field goal percentage ranks 39th nationally with a minimum of 5 FGM/game.
- Stokes (Sr., Mount Vernon, Mo.) continues to do it all for Missouri State from the point guard position. Stokes leads the team in scoring (12.5 ppg), assists (101), steals (65) and minutes (33.0 mpg). She is tied for 1st in the MVC in steals per game (2.6) and ranks 22nd nationally in steals/game and 28th in steals (65).
- Spectacular Sophomores - Sophomores Kaemyn Bekemeier (11.0 ppg) and Kyrah Daniels (11.8 ppg) are two of four Lady Bears averaging double-figure points this season, and they rank first and third on the team in rebounding with 149 and 128 boards, respectively. Bekemeier leads the team in FT% (.797) and is 3rd in 3FG% (.378), while Daniels leads the team in 3FGM (49) and 2nd in BLK (17).
- A couple of keys to success for Missouri State this season have been:
- Getting off to a quick start: 18-1 when leading at the half and are 1-4 when trailing at the break.
- Bench production: 15-1 this season when leading in bench scoring.Â
- Balanced offense: 13-1 this season when four or more players score in double figures.Â
- Missouri State ranks 42nd nationally in bench points per game with 24.0. The duo of Bekemeier and Douglas has accounted for 75.2 percent (451 out of 600) of MoState's bench points this season.Â
- In the Cunningham era, Missouri State is 42-4 when scoring 70+ points, 47-1 when holding opponents to 65 points or less and 35-0 when opponents score less than 60 points.Â
Missouri State leads the all-time series 62-31 against Northern Iowa, which includes a 23-20 record on the road at Cedar Falls.
In this year's first meeting, the Lady Bears dominated in a 36-point victory. After leading by 18 at the half, MoState shut down the Panther offense in the second half, holding UNI to just 15 second-half points on 26 percent (7-27) shooting from the field. Four Lady Bears scored in double figures, paced by Kaemyn Bekemeier with 17 points. Sarah Linthacum also posted a 16-point, 13-rebound performance.Â
Last season, the Lady Bears and Panthers met just one time - a 54-52 victory for MoState in Springfield. Missouri State didn't take its first lead of the game until the 3:18 mark in the final quarter, and later UNI's Maya McDermott tied the game with 0:05 left. The Lady Bears had one final chance, that's when Lacy Stokes worked her magic and got a contested shot off right before the buzzer, watching it fall through as she slid across the baseline for the two-point victory.Â
