Soccer Bears Fall to Creighton in a Nail-Biter, 1-0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri State Bears men's soccer team (3-5-2) lost against Creighton in a nail-biting match on Wednesday night at Swope Soccer Village, with a 1-0 scoreline.

Both the Bears and the Bluejays (6-3-2) kicked off the match fiercely, looking for any opportunity to attack. However, it was a superb performance by both teams' goalkeepers that kept the first half without a goal scored.

The Bluejays made the first move with a shot on goal in the ninth minute, saved by senior Will Lowry.

In the 15th minute junior Adrian Esteban shot on goal, which was then saved by the Bluejays' Matthew Hudson. The Bears attacked again two minutes later, with senior Diego Real shooting on goal which was again saved by Hudson.

It was in the 33rd minute that Lowry made an impeccable save after a shot by the Bluejays' Todd Vromant to the top right of the goal.

The second half began much like the first, with both teams creating chances on offense to put pressure on the goal.

In the 53rd minute, Esteban shot on goal again which was saved by Hudson.

Lowry made another impeccable save in the 63rd minute, denying Bluejay Miguel Arilla a goal from a shot to the bottom right.

Only seven seconds later senior Fumiya Shiraishi tried to attack with a shot on goal, again saved by Hudson. He attempted another shot in the 83rd minute, and yet another in the 84th which was again saved by Hudson.

It was in the 89th minute that Creighton created the winning opportunity, with the Bluejays' Martin Herrera scoring the goal that decided the match. This reversed the story between the two teams from last year. It was Shiraishi that scored a goal in the 90th minute to earn the Bears the win against Creighton last season.

The Bears attempted 12 total shots with six on goal, to the Bluejays' 10 shots of which five were on goal. The Bears and Bluejays both tallied six corner kicks.

The Bears will face South Florida in an American Conference match-up next on the road in Tampa, Fla. on Friday, October 17, at 6:00 p.m.
