Women’s Soccer Cuts Down Indiana State, 2-0

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team improved to 3-0-1 in conference play with a 2-0 win over Indiana State at home on Sunday.

Camielle Day played the full 90 minutes against the Sycamores (6-3-3, 1-1-1 MVC) to secure the shutout. She faced three shots on-goal from ISU and saved all three. Day now has 24 career shutouts to tie Alexis Stormo (2001-04) for second in school history.

Kaeli Benedict scored the game winner for the Bears (5-4-3, 3-0-1 MVC) early in the first half. In the 10th minute, Benedict sent the ball flying past Indiana State's Maddie Alexander off an assist from Jula Kristensen for her first goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, the Bears found the back of the net again as Lillie Rasmussen scored a stealthy insurance goal in the 12th minute. Once again, Kristensen set up the shot and Rasmussen snuck the ball into the goal while Alexander was focused on another player.

The Bears' offense controlled the ball for the full 90 minutes. MoState took 19 shots to the Sycamores' seven with 15 shots on-target.

With three wins and a tie under their belt, the Bears move into first place in the conference standings with 10 points, and are one of three teams to remain unbeaten in conference play (UIC and Southern Illinois).

"Team executed the game plan very well," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "They came out quick and were able to get multiple goals on the scoreboard and be able to hold a solid Indiana State side to a shutout through the remainder of the game. It took a whole team effort to do that and I'm extremely proud of getting another three points in conference. Now we're excited for the bye this week and to get ready for our trip next weekend!"

The Bears have a bye this week before returning to play on Sunday, Oct. 6 with a road trip to Belmont. Kickoff against the Bruins is set for 1:00 p.m.
