CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Missouri State women's soccer team closed out its two-game Valley road trip with a 1-0 win at UNI on Sunday.
Forward Julia Kristensen scored the game-winner for the Bears with a strike into the bottom right of the goal with an assist from defender Carly Raunig in the 24th minute. The senior from St. Charles, Mo. leads the Bears in game-winning goals this season (2). Her other game-winner was the solo goal in MoState's victory over Tulsa (Aug. 18).
Missouri State (4-4-2, 2-0-0 MVC) outshot UNI (5-4-1, 0-2 MVC) 9-7 with 5 shots on-goal to the Panthers' three. Midfielder Kaeli Benedict was the only Bear to record more than one shot. The senior took two shots, one in the first half and one in the second, with her second shot on-target.
Goalkeeper Camielle Day saved all three of UNI's shots on-goal to secure the Bears' fifth shutout of the season. Day now has 23 career clean sheets to rank third in program history, just behind Alexis Stormo (2001-04) for second place of MSU's all-time list. Jackie Jasper (2005-08) holds the record with 27.
"Tough conference game," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "Very proud of the entire team for their resilience and grit to get the win and the shutout. Getting six points on the long road trip is a massive start to conference play. We are excited to get back home this week."
After five straight games on the road, the Bears return home on Thursday to face Evansville at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free for all regular season games at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
