Bears Shut Out SIUE in First Draw of the Year

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team tied SIUE, 0-0, in a home match on Sunday afternoon at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
The Cougars (1-0-2) took five shots with four on-goal during the match. MoState (1-1-1) took five times as many shots with 25 recorded and 14 on-goal, but could not break the scoreless deadlock.
Freshman forward Maggie O'Keefe had the most chances with six shots and three on-target in 43 minutes on the field. Midfielder Jenna Anderson and forward Lillie Rasmussen both took three shots apiece.
The Bears had four total saves with three credited to goalkeeper Camielle Day.
Missouri State also outshined SIUE in corner kicks. The Bears took 13 to the Cougars' seven. Ten came in the second half and almost all of them happened in quick succession. From the 41st to 44th minute, MoState took three corner kicks and repeated the trend from the 61st to 63rd minute and the 78th to 80th minute.
"Overall frustrating tie," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "The team correctly implemented everything we had been working on in training, but just couldn't find the back of the net. We continue to focus on the process and keep evolving. Shoutout to our team for getting another shutout."
The Bears are home again on Thursday to face No. 23 Saint Louis at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free for all home games this season.
