TULSA, Okla. – The Missouri State tennis team secured its first road victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Oral Roberts on Saturday.
 
The Bears (4-4) fell into a deficit early in the match when the Golden Eagles (0-7) snagged the doubles point with 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
 
MoState wasted no time battling back for the win.
 
Sandra Lukacova swept Zere Iskakova in the No. 5 singles match to tie the match. Lukacova won 6-0, 6-0 for the first time this season. The junior remains undefeated in singles this spring and is the first Bear to sweep an opponent in the 2023-24 season.
 
Cristina Flaquer won the final point for the Bears that sealed their victory. In the No. 1 match, Flaquer battled ORU's Sasha Lebedeva to take the first set 6-4. The senior from Spain then went on the win the second set in the same way with another 6-4 win.
 
At the No. 3 sport, Tuana Gunal also played a quick match. The Gebze, Turkey native only dropped one set in her match against Reagan Miley from Oral Roberts. Gunal won the first set 6-1 before going on to win the second set 6-0 and put the Bears one point away from victory. This was the freshman's largest margin of victory.
 
Nicole Ross gave the Bears the lead with her win in the No. 6 singles spot. The junior won the first set 6-3 over Abby Wise of Oral Roberts. Ross then went on to take the second set 6-0 and win her third straight match in No. 6.
 
"I am really proud of the girls bouncing back in singles after dropping the doubles point," head coach Ellie Burger said. "We showed a lot of resilience in this match, and I am extremely proud of them!"
 
The Bears return home for another three-match home stand beginning on Feb. 23 with an 11:00 a.m. match against ULM. Admission is free at Cooper Tennis Complex.
