The Ten Count
  • Missouri State concludes a three-game home stand on Tuesday when the Bears host UT Arlington (WAC) at 7 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena. The Bears are coming off a thrilling 111-106 triple-overtime win over previously-unbeaten Tulsa on Saturday for their third straight home victory, dating back to last season.
  • Tuesday's game marks the return of Missouri State fan favorite Keith Pickens to Great Southern Bank Arena. Now in his second season as an assistant coach at UT Arlington, Pickens spent the five previous campaigns (2018-23) on the coaching staff at SEMO, including three under coach Brad Korn. The St. Louis native was an on-court standout for the Bears from 2009-14 with two seasons under Cuonzo Martin, served as the team's graduate manager from 2014-16, and was a full-time assistant coach at MSU from 2016-18. He tallied 568 points and 253 rebounds in 111 games at MSU and ranked 10th in school history in blocked shots (70) at the end of his career.
  • Missouri State head coach Cuonzo Martin is 46-11 (.807) all-time record at Great Southern Bank Arena, including a 37-3 ledger over his last 40 home games in Springfield.
  • Vincent Brady II (Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.) averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game last week while leading the Bears to a 2-0 start to their home stand. Sophomore teammate Dez White (Jefferson City, Mo.) also scored 18.0 points to go with 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a 91-percent FT percentage.
  • During his career, Cuonzo Martin's teams are a combined 158-39 (.802) when they score 70 or more points.
  • The Bears begin the week ranked 8th nationally in steals per game (12.7) and 22nd in turnovers forced per game (18.33), both of which lead the Missouri Valley Conference.
  • Freshman Zaxton King (Fr., Lawrence, Kan.) has scored in double figures in all three games, including 13 points against Tulsa on Saturday. He is 13-of-24 (.542) from the field and 8-of-16 (.500) from beyond the arc this season, while averaging 13.0 points, 2.7 rebounds. He ranks 3rd in the MVC in 3-point shooting percentage.
  • The Bears broke a Great Southern Bank Arena record for free throw attempts (51) in Saturday's triple-overtime win over Tulsa, ironically breaking an 11-year old mark (49) set by the Bears against Tulsa on Nov. 16, 2013.
  • Dez White (So., Jefferson City, Mo.) is one of two Bears (with Zaxton King) to score in double figures in each of MSU's first three ball games. White enters the week ranked 3rd in The Valley in scoring average at 19.0 points per game. He is 15-for-16 (.938) at the FT line and is coming off a team-high 20 points in Saturday's win over Tulsa.
  • Tuesday is the 21st birthday for Bears' junior Sam Murray II (G, Gulfport, Miss.).
  • Chase Martin (Sr., Columbia, Mo.) has accounted for 44 percent of the Bears' bench points this season and is coming off 18 points, including the go-ahead three-point play, in Saturday's triple-overtime win over Tulsa.

The Series
  • Missouri State and UT Arlington have met 10 times with the series tied, 5-5. The Bears are 4-1 at home against the Mavericks (0-0 at Great Southern Bank Arena) and 1-4 in Arlington.
  • The last meeting between the clubs was on Jan. 6, 1986 at Hammons Student Center with an 80-69 Missouri State victory. The Bears shot 56 percent from the field and got 23 points from Greg Bell and 21 from Phil Shlegel in the victory. Bell and Winston Garland each contributed 7 rebounds to the winning cause.

Coach Cuonzo Martin
  • After an extensive national search, Missouri State University announced Cuonzo Martin as its men's basketball head coach on March 27, 2024. The man who orchestrated Missouri State's only MVC regular-season championship run during his first tenure in Springfield originally coached at Missouri State from 2008 to 2011.
  • Martin begins his second tenure at MoState with a 266-199 (.572) career record in 15 seasons as a Division I head coach. His teams have made nine postseason appearances in that span, including four trips to the NCAA Tournament, four appearances in the NIT, and a CIT title with the Bears in 2010.
  • Coach Martin is also 63-42 (.600) in his fourth season (and second stint) at Missouri State University. He is 0-0 all-time vs. UT Arlington.
  • Martin also boasts 56 college graduates during his career with stints at MoState, Tennessee (2011-14), California (2014-17) and Missouri (2017-22).
  • A native of East St. Louis, Ill., Martin was a star player at Purdue from 1991-95 for coach Gene Keady and then played four years professionally. He was on the coaching staff at Purdue for eight years under Keady and Matt Painter before accepting his first head coaching position at MSU on March 26, 2008.
  • In Martin's first stint in Springfield (2008-11), he was named Missouri State's 16th head coach in time for the program's 100th anniversary season and its inaugural campaign at Great Southern Bank Arena. In his second season (2009-10), Martin guided MoState to a 24-12 overall ledger, a 19-2 home record, and an impressive run to the CIT Postseason Tournament title.
  • His third season at MSU (2010-11) was one of the program's most memorable, as the Bears finished 26-9 overall on the way to the program's first-ever MVC regular-season title with a 15-3 league record. The Bears fell to Indiana State in the finals of the MVC Tournament in St. Louis and capped an unforgettable campaign by advancing to the second round of the NIT. Martin was named 2011 MVC Coach of the Year and recipient of the Ben Jobe Award as the nation's top minority head coach. Over Martin's last two years at MoState, the Bears were 35-3 at home and did not lose a non-conference home game.
