Bears Fall to Iowa, 2-1, in Women’s NCAA Tournament

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Missouri State women's soccer team ended its record -breaking season with a 2-1 loss at Iowa on Friday night in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Senior defender Jenna Anderson scored her first goal of the season with 12 minutes to go in the second half to break up the Iowa shutout. Freshman defender Jane Hansen set up Anderson for the goal which Anderson lobbed past Iowa goalkeeper Macy Enneking. It was Hansen's third assist of the season.

MSU goalkeeper Camielle Day made a season-high 11 saves against the Hawkeyes to keep the Bears in the match. The No. 3-seeded Iowa squad outshot MoState, 28-7.

"What an amazing season," Missouri State head coach Kirk Nelson said. "This is such a special group of incredible people. They represented MoState and our community with integrity and grace. Thank you to the staff, they were unbelievable. I will never forget Team 29."

The Bears end the year with an overall record of 13-5-3 while winning their first-ever Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title with a 9-0-1 Valley ledger in their final season in the conference. Missouri State also ended its Valley run with a 20-game unbeaten streak and the coveted MVC Tournament title that sent Nelson's squad to the NCAA Tournament.
