URBANDALE, Iowa – The Missouri State tennis team dropped its season opener, 4-1, to Iowa State on the road on Saturday.
In doubles, the Missouri State duo of
Cristina Flaquer and
Nicole Ross led the No. 56 team of Anna Kuearum and Isabella Dunlap for the early points in the set. The pair of Bears led the ranked cyclones 2-0 to start the match. Slowly the Cyclones were able to out battle the Bears and secure the doubles point for Iowa State.
In singles, the Bears battled for every point but ultimately fell in the first three flights, clinching the match for Iowa State.
Nicole Ross fought hard at the No. 5 spot, taking the first set to a tie against Iowa State's Gala Arangio in a competitive match, but both Ross and
Tuana Gunal's matchups went unfinished on the day following the Cyclone victory.
Iowa State forfeited the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches due to injury.
The Bears will be back in action tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. to face South Dakota in a neutral-site match hosted by Iowa State.
