Polcovich Collects 1,000th Dig; Bears Fall to Grand Canyon

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Missouri State senior libero Teagan Polcovich became the 26th in school history to reach 1,000 career digs Friday in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-23) loss to Grand Canyon in the opening match of the Hawkeye Invitational at Xtream Arena.

Polcovich's first dig of the match gave her the milestone and was the highlight of an opening set that saw the Bears trail by at least three points after an early GCU run made it 8-3. She finished with 16 digs in the match to lead all players and climbed two more spots to 24th on the Bears' career list.

Missouri State (4-3) started 6-for-10 on the attack in the second period to lead 7-3, but the Lopes (4-3) gained the lead for good at 11-10 during a 3-0 run before using a late 6-1 run to pull away.

The Bears were in control for much of the third set, going up 7-4 following a 4-0 run and pushing that to 22-18 after Maddy Bushnell kills accounted for four consecutive MSU points. Grand Canyon countered with a closing 7-1 run for the win, including two aces to raise its match total to 10.

Deja Bickers led the Bears with 10 kills for an offense that hit .053 compared to .192 for GCU. Lindsay Lahr tallied team highs of four blocks and two aces. MSU led 48-43 in total digs and 34-32 in kills but committed 15 more attack errors than the Lopes.

The Bears take on Iowa Saturday at 6 p.m.
