SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State held visiting Evansville to a .090 attack efficiency and tallied 11 blocks Saturday afternoon at Hammons Student Center to earn a 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 sweep of the Purple Aces and improve to 8-8 overall and 2-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Lindsay Lahr (7) and
Deja Bickers (4) each recorded season-high block totals, and
Kate Owen lifted a season-best 20 digs to help the Bears hold an opponent under the .100 mark in hitting percentage for the fourth time this season.
The Bears opened the match on a 5-0 run and led 13-3 midway through the opening set, and Evansville (6-9, 1-3) got no closer than 17-13 after that.
Missouri State went from down 9-3 to up 18-15 in the second before a pair of big momentum swings. Evansville rattled off five in a row to lead 20-18, then Lahr had two kills during a 6-0 MSU run that got the score to 24-20.
Maddy Bushnell's kill ended it three points later.
The third set was tied 15 times with three lead changes.
Breanah Rives scored a kill for a 19-18 advantage on the way to 12 kills and 10 digs, and the Aces pulled even four times but never took the lead. From 22-all, it was an
Azyah Green kill,
Teagan Polcovich ace and
Deja Bickers kill to secure the sweep.
Missouri State hit .162 as a team and led 69-61 in digs and 11-7 in blocks. Both sides served three aces.
The Bears remain at home for a 4 p.m. Monday match with Southern Illinois (10-4, 2-1).
