Clay Doubles Up with Valley Honors

March 01, 2023

ST. LOUIS -- Missouri State swing man Donovan Clay (Sr., Alton, Ill.) earned a pair of honors from the Missouri Valley Conference on Wednesday (March 1) with the league's postseason awards list.

Clay was named to the All-MVC second team as well as the MVC All-Defensive Team. It marks the second straight season the Bears' standout has been among The Valley's top defensive stars.

Clay's 11.9 points per game is tops among MoState players, while he also leads the club in minutes (897), field goals (128), field goal attempts (273), free throws (61), free throw attempts (90), assists (99) and total points (334). He is second on the club in rebounds (158), rebounds per game (5.6) and blocked shots (27).

Almost Without exception, Clay has drawn the team's toughest defensive assignment on a nightly basis since his arrival on the Springfield campus last season. He was also a Preseason All-MVC second-team selection, which was announced in October prior to the start of the campaign.

Clay's honors come on the heels of Tuesday's release of Chance Moore's selection to the MVC All-Bench Team.

The Bears were shut out in the other Valley award category announcements for All-Newcomer Team, All-Freshman Team and Most-Improved Team.

The Bears open Arch Madness play on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against UIC at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
