SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State's
Hayden Minton,
Forrest Barnes and
Gage Bradley combined for 13 strikeouts and one walk on the mound Sunday afternoon to lead MSU to a 2-1 victory and complete the three-game sweep of visiting Central Arkansas at Hammons Field.
Minton scattered three hits and walked none while striking out a career-high nine hitters in six shutout innings, making it two days in a row for an MSU starter to fan nine in six frames after
Brandt Thompson did so Saturday.
Barnes pitched the next two innings with two strikeouts and Bradley fanned a pair in a 1-2-3 ninth for his first collegiate save.
Nick Rodriguez put Missouri State (5-2) on the board with a solo home run in the third, his third of the year,
Spencer Nivens drew a leadoff walk and scored on a two-out
Mason Hull single in the fifth, and that was all the offense the Bears needed to secure their fourth consecutive win.
UCA (3-4) snuck a two-out solo homer over the left field fence in the eighth for its lone run on four hits.
Missouri State wraps up its four-game home stand Tuesday at 3 p.m. against 15th-ranked Oklahoma State.
