NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Junior Kayla Pfitzner fired a one-over-par 73 Tuesday (Feb. 14) to key a strong final round which lifted the Missouri State women's golf team from 15th to a tie for 10th in the final standings at the Tulane Classic presented by Chad Brownstein. On a day when the average score was nearly 80 with winds gusting to 30 miles per hour, the Bears managed a 310 team score, sixth-best of the day, giving them a 938 total in three trips around English Turn Golf and Country Club and a strong rebound after a lackluster start on Sunday.
Senior Abby Cavaiani led MSU for the tournament, tying for 30th after posting 79-74-79--232, while freshman Kiser Pannier was next in a tie for 52nd with 85-74-78--237. Senior Faith Belmear was a shot behind at 238 on rounds of 82-76-80, while Pfitzner tallied 239 for three rounds and Arielle Keating shot 87-76-85--248.
Purdue captured the team title with 897, four better than Tulane and Incarnate Word. UTEP placed fourth with 910 and Iowa rounded out the top five at 919.
The Bears are idle next weekend before returning to action Feb. 24-26 at the Rio Verde Invitational.
