Bears Dominate Bradley in Home Sweep

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State did not trail after 7-6 in the opening set Friday in a dominant 25-13, 25-16, 25-15 victory over visiting Bradley. MoState improved to 14-14 overall and 8-8 in Missouri Valley Conference play and secured a spot in the upcoming conference tournament after the other matches around the league went final.

The victory also moved the Bears to 9-5 at Hammons Student Center this season and secured a winning home record for the 44th time in 47 seasons in the building.

Maddy Bushnell hit .538 with 16 kills to lead the way, while the MSU defense tallied 11 blocks and limited the Braves (9-20, 2-14) to a .010 attack efficiency, the second-lowest of the season for an MSU opponent.

Morgan Sprague had two blocks and two aces in a 9-1 run in the first set that put Missouri State up 15-8, and the Bears never looked back the rest of the match. Bushnell equaled Bradley's kill total in the opening period with six.

The Bears opened the next two sets with runs of 6-0 and 4-0, continuing their consistent play to the sweep.

Deja Bickers added 10 kills for MSU and Azyah Green had nine, while Sprague went for 36 assists and 12 digs for her seventh consecutive double-double.

Teagan Polcovich had 11 digs, Brooke Eslinger had 10 and Kate Owen added nine to give her 993 in her career. Owen also served four of the Bears' nine aces.

MoState hosts Illinois State (11-17, 9-7) at 5 p.m. Saturday for Senior Night. The Bears' five outgoing seniors will be honored following the match.
