Bears’ Offense Rolls in 3-1 Win at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Missouri State's volleyball team had its best offensive outing of the Missouri Valley Conference season Saturday afternoon at Indiana State, completing a 2-0 road weekend with a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17) victory inside ISU Arena.

The Bears (12-13, 6-7 MVC) piled up a season-high 67 kills on .285 hitting – their second-best efficiency of the season – while four players reached double figures for the first time this year in Maddy Bushnell (19), Azyah Green (16 on .565 hitting), Breanah Rives (14) and Deja Bickers (11). Both Bushnell and Green posted career-best totals for a four-set match.

Morgan Sprague spread the ball around to those attackers with a season-high 51 assists, adding 12 digs for her fourth consecutive double-double.

Bickers, Green and Rives all had four kills without an error in the opening set, which was all Bears after an early 5-1 deficit with a .289 hitting percentage and 26 team digs. Teagan Polcovich had seven of her 18 digs in the opening period to lead four in double figures, including Brooke Eslinger (14), Kate Owen (13) and Sprague.

Missouri State never led in the second set as ISU (3-20, 1-12) evened the match, and Green took over in the third with seven kills and a block. MoState fell behind 6-1 before Green kills accounted for five consecutive MSU points, the last beginning a 4-0 run for an 18-15 lead. The score was tied at each point from 19-23 when Green had a kill and teamed with Sprague for a block for the 25-23 victory.

The Bears hit a blistering .405 with 20 kills in the fourth set, opening on a 3-0 run and never looking back. Bushnell went 7-for-9 on the attack in the final set to end the match with a .317 hitting percentage.

Missouri State remains on the road next Friday and Saturday with trips to Murray State and Belmont.
