LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Missouri State tennis team wrapped up the fall season at the ITA Regional Championship on Thursday and Friday.

Day Two

The Missouri State tennis team concluded its fall season at the ITA Regional Championship here Friday with senior Cristina Flaquer representing the Bears in the first and second rounds of singles play.
 
Flaquer took to the court today and defeated Saniya Singh of Tulsa in two sets. After the first set went to a tie, Flaquer battled to win the set with an 8-6 tiebreak. The senior then flew through the second set to win 6-2. 
 
She dropped her second match of the day to Raquel Gonzalez (Oklahoma State), 6-4, 6-2, and made her exit from the tournament in the round of 64. 
 
The Bears will return on Jan. 20 with their spring debut at Iowa State to start the spring dual season. 
 
 
Day One

Mary Houston started the day for the Bears with a victory over North Dakota's Andrea Jansson. Houston dropped the first set 6-4 but made a comeback and won the second 6-3 before winning the third 10-8.
 
Juliette Robinson won her match in a similar way. Against Drake's Darinka Stepan, Robinson lost the first set 6-2. When the second set went to a tie, the junior battled her opponent to win the tiebreaker 7-2. Robinson took the final set 10-6.
 
Tuana Gunal raced through her first match of the day with a win over Northern Iowa's Issa Sullivan. Gunal won 6-1, 6-1 over her Missouri Valley Conference opponent.
 
ITA Regionals do not have flights for singles or doubles. There are 165 players involved in the tournament.
 
"We had a good first round and ran into some strong competitors out of Tulsa, Minnesota and Nebraska in the second round," head coach Ellie Burger said. "I'm excited to watch Cristina tomorrow."
 
Cristina Flaquer will begin her singles run tomorrow. Play is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
