TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Missouri State women's soccer team secured another win with a 1-0 finish over Indiana State on Thursday.
Gracie English only needed one goal to propel the Bears (9-1-5, 4-0-3 MVC) to victory. In the 22
nd minute, English scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from
Iraia Arrue when she was able to push the ball into the back off the net while surrounded by a pack of Indiana State defenders.
With the Missouri State defense limiting the actions of the Indiana State offense, one goal was all it took for the Bears. MoState kept pace with Northern Iowa to maintain a share of the MVC lead with 15 points.
The Bears outshot the Sycamores 19-5. Nine of the Bears shots were on-goal while Indiana State only had two shots on-goal in 90 minutes. Both English and
Ana Paula Fraiz made three shots each.
Camielle Day added a pair of saves to her season record on her way to her eighth solo shutout. Day is up to 42 saves this season. It was also the team's 10
th shutout of the campaign, just one shy of last year's program record.
"It wasn't pretty, but I give the entire team a ton of credit for grinding out a road win for a very valuable three points," head coach
Kirk Nelson said. "We are generating many high-quality opportunities on the attacking side and backing that up with another strong team defensive effort for the shutout. We are very excited to get home and celebrate our amazing seniors on Sunday!"
The Bears are back in Springfield for Senior Day on Sunday to face fellow MVC frontrunner Northern Iowa at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and admission is free.
