SPRINGFIELD – The spring portion of the Missouri State women's tennis 2022-23 schedule has been finalized, first-year head coach
Ellie Burger announced today.
"We're really excited to start our spring season," Burger said. "We've been working hard all fall to prepare us for these upcoming matches, and I know the girls are going to impress. I'm looking forward to seeing all our progress translate into results."
MSU begins the spring with two road duals, battling Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Tech on Jan. 27-28 before facing McNeese State the following day at a neutral site. However, the Bears are home for the majority of February, taking on Eastern Illinois, UMKC, Central Arkansas, Oral Roberts and Southwest Baptist on five separate home dates. The Bears conclude the month with a neutral-site challenge against Arkansas on Feb. 25.
In March, MoState again hits the road, squaring off against SEMO in a two-day dual before battling Missouri Western and Cowley College. The Bears begin Missouri Valley Conference play March 18, competing in three-straight home MVC matches against Bradley, Illinois State and Belmont before taking on Saint Louis at home to close the month.
Missouri State opens April with road duals versus Drake and Northern Iowa before returning home to face Murray State. MSU concludes conference play on the road, taking on Valparaiso and UIC. The MVC Tournament is slated for April 21-23.
Coming off a competitive fall,
Diana Cabrera took a second-place finish at No. 1 singles in The MVC Tournament. At the same tournament, the doubles pair of
Mary Houston and
Silva Avakian earned fourth place in No. 3 doubles, while Avakian grabbed fifth at No. 6 singles.
