Missouri State's
Allison Bray has qualified for the United States Amateur Golf Championship next month in suburban Seattle, Wash. The senior from Cape Girardeau fired a three-under-par 69 this past Tuesday (June 28) at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan., to punch her ticket to the nation's most prestigious women's amateur golf event.
Bray was one of just four in the 38-player field to advance to Chambers Bay Golf Club, August 8-14, finishing a shot behind Springfield's Reagan Zibilski to take second place in the qualifier. She shot an even-par 36 on the front nine, then rattled off four birdies in five holes on the back to secure her spot.
Chambers Bay is ranked the no. 22 public course in America and no. 132 overall by
Golf Digest. The tournament begins with 36 holes of stroke play with the low 64 qualifying for match play to determine the champion.
