MARTIN, Tenn. - The Missouri State Beach Volleyball team dropped a pair of road matches on Saturday afternoon, falling to Tulane (5-0) before losing a hard-fought (3-2) match to UT Martin.
In the opening dual against Tulane, the No. 2 and 5 flights headlined the Missouri State efforts.
In the No. 2 flight, Grace Cook and Chloe Tome took Lara Torruella and Samantha Mehlman the distance before falling in the third set (21-18, 20-22, 15-7). The loss was only Cook and Tome's second of the season. Olivia Rattler and Brooke Plessner also battled in the No. 5 match as they suffered a three-set loss to Josie Cole and Samantha Green (21-14, 9-21, 15-12).
Kaitlyn Holbrook and Lizzy Armstrong defeated Tylar Garrett and Mya Young in two sets (21-8, 21-16) in the No. 1 match. In the No. 4 spot, Grayson Hall and Kaeli Kristensen were swept by Cara Lecklider and Riley Smith (21-13, 21-10).
Liberty clinched the match in the No. 3 spot as Jenae Baker and Syd Metzker secured the victory over Addison Crider and Becca Bach by the scores of 21-16 and 21-14.
In the nightcap against UT Martin, Missouri State picked up wins in the No. 2 and No. 5 positions.
In the No. 2 flight, Cook and Tome rebounded from their loss against Tulane by sweeping Kambree Lucas and Hannah Phillips (21-15, 21-13).
McAllen and Rattler were impressive in the No. 5 match as the MSU duo defeated Brooke Kuball and Addy Vaughn (24-22, 21-14).
In the No. 1 position, UT Martin grabbed the victory as Dylan Mott and Karen Scanlon dispatched Tylar Garrett and Mya Young (21-14, 21-16). Haeleigh Paulino and Logan Wallick defeated Grayson Hall and Kaeli Kristensen in the No. 3 flight (21-8, 21-11).
The Skyhawks added a win in the No. 4 match as Kayla Carrell and Addison Conley defeated Addison Crider and Becca Bach (21-15, 21-11).
"We look forward to our upcoming senior day April 9," said head coach Gretchen Hand. "Come out and support your beach Bears!"
