
Final-Round Surge Lifts Bear Golfers to Third at ORU

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- The Missouri State women's golf team used a spectacular final round Tuesday (Apr. 12) to jump four spots in the standings and finish third at the ORU Invitational at the Club at Indian Springs. After a sluggish opening two rounds Monday, the Bears bounced back with a five-over-par 293 in winds gusting to 40 miles per hour and finished with a 912 total for the tournament.
Senior Allison Bray paced MSU with a two-under 70 and finished tied for ninth with 76-79-70--225, two ahead of teammate Arielle Keating and four clear of Abby Cavaiani, who posted 227 and 229, respectively. Both Keating and Cavaiani carded 73 in the final round. Sophomore Kayla Pfitzner tied for 30th with 76-78-80--234 and senior Brooke Newell tied for 40th with 81-79-77--237.
The Bears' Maroon team shot 314-312-316--942 to finish ninth, but got a stellar outing from senior Faith Belmear, who tied for 13th overall after posting 77-74-76--227. Senior Bridget Schulte tied for 30th with 79-74-81--234, while senior Faith Hopkins carded 76-84-79--239 and junior Johanna Wollenhaupt shot 82-80-80--242.
Arkansas State rallied to take the team title with a final-round 293, tying the Bears for low round of the day, and turned in 874 total, nine better than tournament host Oral Roberts and its 883.The Bears, UT Arlington (915) and Little Rock (917) rounded out the top five.
MSU now heads to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship next Sunday thru Tuesday (Apr. 17-19) at Greenbriar Hills Country Club in Kirkwood, Mo.
