SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State softball improved to 16-14 overall (9-3 MVC) this season with a 2-0 victory against Indiana State (18-17, 5-7 MVC) here Sunday afternoon.

Steffany Dickerson pitched her second complete game shutout of the series, as she gave up just three hits while striking out three in 7.0 innings pitched. Dickerson earned her 11th win of the season and surpassed 100 strikeouts on the year with her performance.

Kelsie Lewis and Daphne Plummer led the way for MSU offensively, both going 1-for-2 at the plate and picking up the Bears' two RBI for the game.

Missouri State jumped on the board first, scoring their first run in the second inning. With two outs, right fielder Annie Mueller drew a walk and then stole second, before scoring on a Lewis single to right field.

With a 1-0 lead, the Bears tacked on an insurance run in the third inning. Skyler Shaw led off the inning with a triple to right field, setting up Plummer for the sacrifice fly to give MSU a two-run lead after three in Springfield.

Two runs would be all the Bears would need, as Dickerson and the MSU defense held the Sycamores at bay and off the scoreboard the entire game. Dickerson carried a no-hit bid into the fifth inning, with Indiana State mustering just three hits across the final three frames, as MSU logged the series sweep of the Sycamores.
