DURANT, Okla. – The Missouri State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to close out its week by falling 4-1 to Southeastern Oklahoma State University here Wednesday afternoon.
After losing the doubles point by a forfeit and two 6-1, 6-3 matches against Southeastern Oklahoma (5-2), the Bears came out strong in singles play. Mara Presot earned her first win of the season for MSU in Flight No. 4, defeating Georgia Hosking 6-4, 6-3. In the Bears' fourth spot, Kate Miley also pushed her opponent to the brink, taking Vanessa Cozamanis to a tiebreaker before ultimately losing 6-4, 7-6(7-0). Juliette Robinson was leading Vanessa Nitu 7-5, 5-3, in the No. 1 spot but went unfinished as the Storm reached four points before its conclusion.
"Today's match was not what we expected," said head coach Randall Knox. "We will reset during the week off, come back and keep competing."
Missouri State (0-11) has a week off before continuing its road slate against Southern Mississippi. The match against the Golden Eagles will take place on Wednesday, March 16 at 10 a.m.
