March 08, 2022

CARACAS, Venezuela Iraia Arrue of the Missouri State women's soccer team has been called up to the Under-20 Venezuelan Women's Soccer National Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

"It's always an honor to represent my country and I am grateful with the university for their support," Arrue said. "I will miss MSU, but I am very excited for this special opportunity."

Arrue will be competing for Venezuela in the Conmebol Suramericano Sub-20, which will take place on April 6-25 in various locations throughout South America. Joining Venezuela in the tournament field will be Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

"I am very excited for Iraia to be called up to the Under-20 Venezuelan Women's Soccer National Team," head coach Kirk Nelson said.  "What an honor to represent your country on the international stage.  She has worked extremely hard and is dedicated to her craft.  This shows her efforts have paid off.  Our Bear's Family is extremely proud of Iraia.  We cannot wait to cheer her on as she competes for a spot in the Under-20 World Cup."

As a freshman, Arrue appeared in 10 matches for the Bears while making two starts in 2021. The Caracas, Venezuela native tallied an assist in a loss at Indiana State (Oct. 17) and posted 328 minutes on the season.
