MARTIN, Tenn. – The Missouri State women's tennis team dropped its first match of the weekend here Friday afternoon, as the Bears fell 4-0 to begin the team's nine-match road trip. 

Down a doubles pair and singles player, MSU (0-8) faced off against the Skyhawks with five available players. After forfeiting the first doubles match in lieu of the minimum amount of players, Mary Houston and Kate Miley were the first to finish for the Bears, falling 6-0 to UT-Martin's Jule Streif and Sina Albersmeier. Juliette Robinson and Mara Presot's doubles match went unfinished, ending at 4-4 versus their Skyhawk's pair of Mizuki Sukurai and Jillian Niedzialowski.  

In singles play the Bears were tasked with digging themselves out of a swift, 2-0, deficit, however, each fell in two sets to their opponents from UT-Martin (1-8). Playing in Flight No. 4, Miley suffered a 7-5, 6-3, defeat to Lia Espinal to finish first for MSU. In the second position for the Bears, Houston was defeated 6-1, 7-5, by Albersmeier to give the Skyhawks the clinch. 

Missouri State will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, as the Bears take on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at noon. The match will be played at the Skyhawk Tennis Complex in Martin, Tenn.
