Beach Volleyball Splits on Day Two of Shoals Beach Bash

February 26, 2022

Florence, Ala., – The Missouri State Beach Volleyball team moved to 2-1 on the season as the Bears defeated Hendrix (4-1) and fell to North Alabama (4-1) on the final day of the Shoals Beach Bash on Saturday afternoon.

"Our Beach Bears battled the elements over the weekend," Head Coach Gretchen Hand said. "Extreme cold, wind, sleet, and rain proved challenging to take the win over UNA. Our pairs continue to develop. I am confident we are moving in the right direction and proud of our first weekend on the road."

In the nightcap against Hendrix, the Bears got out to a 1-0 lead courtesy of Parker McAllen and Olivia Rattler who defeated Eliana Oden and Grace Turner 21-10 and 21-6 in the No. 5 flight. Becca Bach and Brooke Plessner earned a gritty three-set win over Morgan Ford and Mabrey Matz in the No. 4 spot (13-21, 22-20, 15-11).

Missouri State clinched the dual in the No. 2 match as Grace Cook and Chloe Tome continued their winning ways by dispatching Meghan Fuller-Freeman and Kyler Greenlee, 21-7 and 21-10. The win was the duo's seventh straight, dating back to last year's campaign.

Grayson Hall and Kaeli Kristensen provided insurance for the Bears, defeating Liz Roy and Isabella Eurgil (21-16, 21-17) in the third flight.

The Warriors got on the board in the final match of the dual courtesy of Abby Collier and Camryn Presley beating Chloe Filipski and Tylar Garrett (21-16, 21-8) in the No. 1 position.

Cook and Tome picked up the lone win for Missouri State in the North Alabama dual as the No. 2 duo won a three-set thriller over Paula Klemperer and Taylor Seney (21-16, 18-21, 15-10).

Filipski and Garrett took UNA's Jelena Girod and Natalie Kordt the distance in the No. 1 match but were defeated by the scores of 16-21, 21-11 and 15-10. Bach and Plessner also fell in three to the Lions' Katy Floyd and Katie Gerig in the No. 4 flight (21-18, 17-21, 15-11). The No. 5 pair of Rattler and McAllen lost a close battle to Katy Floyd and Katie Gerig, 21-18, 17-21 and 15-11.

The Lions clinched the dual in the No. 3 match as Catie Ladner and Mackenzie Martin dispatched Kristensen and Hall, 21-12 and 21-13.
