Keeping Track of the Bears

  • The Bears return talented athletes across the board for their 2022-23 campaign, including sprinter Calandra Henry who had a breakout outdoor season, finishing second in the 100-meter dash at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. On the indoor side of things, Henry also found success but narrowly missed the podium at the indoor championships, finishing fourth in the 60-meter with a time of 7.53 seconds.

  • The Bears also return sophomore DaeLin Switzer, who earned runner-up honors in the indoor championship in high jump last year with a height of 1.72m.

  • Edna Dar also returns for the Bears, leading the team's distance efforts. The Ontario, Canada, native scored 19 points for MSU at the indoor championships in 2022 for her third-place finish in the mile, her second-place aid in the distance medley, and her work in the 4x400 relay.

  • MSU will send 23 athletes to compete in Saturday's invitational over 14 events. The largest number of Bears will compete in the 4x400-meter relay, with four separate teams competing in the event.

  • MSU will have plenty of new talent this season highlighted by eight freshmen on the 2022-23 roster.

  • In the Preseason Coach's Poll released earlier this week, the Bears were picked to finish eighth in the conference with 68 points. Illinois State (144 points) and Indiana State (122 points) were picked to finish first and second, respectively, on the women's side of the conference.

  • The Bears' indoor schedule will feature six regular season meets before the conference indoor championships on Feb. 26-27. MSU will compete in four meets hosted by Pittsburg State University as well as one at Kansas State University and the University of Arkansas.

  • MSU's outing on Saturday marks the team's earliest start to the season since its 2018-19 campaign when MSU competed in the Missouri Holiday Opener on December 8.

  • Head coach Jordan Fife is in his fifth year as head coach and ninth overall with the program after a four-year stint as an assistant for the program. Fife also took over the head coaching duties of the cross country team in 2014.
