Golfers Finish Strong in Fall Finale

HOLLISTER, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's golf team closed out its fall season Wednesday (Nov. 2) with one of its strongest rounds of the season. The Bears posted 291 at Ozarks National Golf Course, eight better than any other team in the field, and moved up four spots to finish seventh in the 12-team field after digging itself a large hole in the tournament's first two rounds. They shot 320-309 to open and finished with a 920 total for the three rounds, five better than the MSU Maroon squad, which posted 314-301-310--925 and placed eighth.

South Dakota rallied to edge Murray State by a stroke for the team title, 905-906, while Wichita State (909), Omaha (911) and Toledo (912) rounded out the top five.

Freshman Kiser Pannier was the top finisher for the Bears, tying for 12th after carding 77-75-76--228. Senior Abby Cavaiani and junior Kayla Pfitzner tied for 18th by recording 229 totals; 81-74-74 for Cavaiani and 77-79-73 for Pfitzner.

Senior Faith Belmear was the story of the day for MSU, though, after firing a career and tournament-best four-under-par 68 to move up 37 spots and tie for 23rd place. She had carded 80-83 the first two days and ended with a 231 total, the same as Arielle Keating, who shot 79-75-77.

Senior Allison Bray tied for 34th after shooting 76-78-80--234, one better than Johanna Wollenhaupt (82-74-79--235), and two clear of Brooke Newell (82-78-76--236). Faith Hopkins tied for 48th with 83-77-78--238 and Helena Bel was 54th with 85-78-77--240.

The Bears will return from their winter break and open the spring campaign Feb. 12-14 at the Tulane Classic in New Orleans, La.
